About GEL Training

We know that an effective and efficient governing body makes a real contribution to their school. A governing body also has clear and important responsibilities, such as managing and appointing headteachers, and contributing to Ofsted inspections.

On the Governors E-Learning (GEL) website you will find a range of materials to match different needs. These have been designed to help people understand the roles that school governors and clerks play in the everyday work of a school, but also in key events such as appointments and inspections. In particular, GEL uses these types of materials to help you prepare for your vital role:

  • Succession Planning – vital for school governors needing to appoint a new Headteacher
  • School Governor Induction – gives you the confidence to fully contribute at governor meetings

Governors E-Learning materials are constantly being added to. So for governors who cannot attend face-to-face training, GEL acts as an important induction or updating support. In particular, GEL training modules are designed to let you work at your own pace to learn about key aspects of the many different roles that school governors can take, helping you not just to improve your skills and knowledge on key topics, but to test yourself. Each learning module will guide you through the topic, with regular activities to reinforce your learning. You will also be offered a learning review at the end of the module.
