Continuing Professional Development
1. Where are we now?
-
Does CPD support current school improvement priorities?
-
Is CPD linked to the Performance Management process?
-
How are staff made aware of CPD opportunities available to them?
-
Do we have clear guidelines for agreeing CPD opportunities?
-
Is the school involved in specific local authority support programmes (e.g. ISP, Primary Leadership Programme)?
-
Are we addressing Every Child Matters through CPD ( e.g. Looked After Children, Child Protection, engaging with parents/carers)?
-
What CPD opportunities are in place for specific groups of people (e.g newly qualified teachers (NQTs), middle/senior leaders, newly appointed headteachers, governors, clerks etc)?
-
What CPD is available for support staff (administrative, teaching assistants, site managers, lunchtime supervisors)?
-
Are there opportunities for staff to develop understanding of the governing body’s role and how they can work with governors effectively?
-
Are staff pursuing accredited programmes (e.g. leading from the middle, NPQH, LPSH. etc) which may enhance broader career prospects?
-
How do we identify CPD opportunities available within our own school?
-
What other CPD would we like to do if time and resources permit?
2. Where do we want to get to?
-
Is CPD integrated into the current year’s Action Plan, with clear links to School Improvement Priorities, informing and supporting the Performance Management process for all staff and improving pupil outcomes?
3. How are we going to do it?
-
Are there opportunities for joint CPD with other local or partner schools?
-
Do we have expertise we can share in school and beyond (shadowing, coaching and mentoring, observing lessons)?
-
Where should responsibility for managing CPD be located (e.g. just with the headteacher, with Senior Leaders, the CPD leader, or more widely)?
-
What processes exist to embed CPD ( e.g. how is learning from CPD disseminated in school)?
-
Do we cost our CPD at the Action Planning stage?
4. Did it make the difference we wanted to see (as set out in the Action Plan) and what do we need to do next)?
-
How will we monitor and evaluate impact (what evidence do governors need to see to help them fulfil their role)?
-
Would it be appropriate for a governor to attend/observe a CPD event?
-
How can we measure the views of learners /parents/staff to help us evaluate impact?
-
Is there any independent evaluation of impact?
