Ethos (cont.)
The ethos statement may also be included in a more personalised school Mission Statement or Vision Document, which will reflect the wider aims of the school in terms of what it hopes to achieve for, and with, its pupils. Governors should ensure that there is a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in the school, as not all families will choose the school for its religious denomination. However, Christian principles underpin everything the school does and should be evident to all. Inspection will judge how the distinctive Christian character of the school impacts on meeting the needs of pupils.
Suggested Activity:
It would be useful to go into school and look for evidence of the ethos statement in action:
-
in what way does the school provide education within Christian beliefs and practice?
-
how does the school promote Christian values?
