Section 3: The Strategic Responsibilities of Church School

Governors

The key purpose of all governing bodies is to assist schools in providing the best education possible for its pupils. They do this by:

  • being strategic: setting the values, vision and aims, agreeing policy and plans and ensuring effective use of the schools resources;

  • by offering support and challenge: monitoring and evaluating the school’s performance, being a critical friend to the Headteacher over his/her management of the school;

  • ensuring accountability: to parents and pupils, to staff, to the local and wider community of the school.
