The Strategic Responsibilities of Church School (cont.)

Irrespective of the category of their school, Parliament has given all governing bodies a wide range of powers and duties through various Education Acts. These cover:

• Standards of educational achievement in the school, including the setting of school targets

• The curriculum and, through the Headteacher, ensuring the quality of teaching

• Reporting results

• Policies

• Financial matters and ensuring best value

• Staffing, including ensuring the performance management of all staff

• Discipline: issues relating to school staff and pupils; pupil health and safeguarding can also be included here

• Special Educational Needs: ensuring the needs of all children and young people are met

• Inspection, including school self evaluation
