The Strategic Responsibilities of Church School (cont.)
In all Church schools the governors are responsible for the religious education and collective worship provided. It is often the Foundation governors who take the lead on this. They have a particular responsibility for ensuring that links to the church and its community are maintained and that the religious character of the school is preserved and developed.
Foundation governors should also ensure that the school is led and managed in accordance with both its Trust Deed and its ethos statement, and have an important role to play in planning for the succession of the school’s leadership.
Inspection will judge the effectiveness of the leadership and management of the school as a Church school. The full governing body should adopt a strategic approach to its work, focussing on the major issues facing the school. It should delegate much of the detailed monitoring work to committees or working parties, where individual issues can be dealt with by smaller groups who will later report decisions or make recommendations to the full governing body.
