Taking the Chair

This online course has been adapted from the ‘Taking the Chair’ programme developed by the then Departmentfor Education and Skills, the Eastern Leadership Centre and the, then National College for School Leadership.  It is designed for Chairs, Vice-Chairs and Chairs of committees to enable you to develop the skills needed tocarry out the role effectively.

The whole programme aims to:

  • strengthen and develop your capacity to lead the work of the Governing Body

  • deepen your understanding of the role of the Chair

  • enhance your confi dence and skills in managing the role and relationships

  • widen your strategies for developing the partnership between the Governing Body, the headteacher andthe staff

  • encourage you to share leadership and make good use of the skills and knowledge of others
